Whorl By Aronowitz

At the end of June I got to go to the AZ Awards, my first time there I had a great night and met some interesting people. One of which was Neal Aronowitz, one of the finalists under the furniture design category for his table the Whorl Table. Which received the People’s Choice award among many other recognitions for his debut in design. So I decided to delve a bit further, and see how the native New Yorker made his transition from his business in construction to following his heart to become designer in my interview. Now located in Portland Oregon, Aronowitz is alive with ideas bursting at the seams!

Whorl Table - Neal Aronowitz

We talked a whole array of subjects from his Whorl Table design and making that 180 decision, “I am going to be a designer” when so close to making it big in the food industry. Spirituality, Seth Godin, inspirational designers and artists, technical challenges with making the table as well as overcoming and dealing with personal fears that we all have about putting ourselves out there… as a writer, a designer, an artist the list goes on. He mentions a particular book by Godin that made an impact on him The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly?

Casting of Whorl Table

Relatively new to the design world, the Whorl Table being his introduction three years ago has received success widely from top designers and influencers. The contrast of the light concrete ribbon layered lightly on to itself against what would usually be considered “heaviness” of the material. Available exclusively at Panomo we talk about his upcoming projects and an upcoming version of the Whorl Table in metal.
